High Level Overview on Katalon Studio Tool Features

In this article, I would like to give an high level overview on all the features available in the Katalon Studio Test Automation Tool.

Note: All the terms mentioned in this article will be explained in detailed in the upcoming sessions. Keep reading even though you don’t understand any terms and only understand this topic at a high level.

Prerequisite: Refer to our previous article ‘Introduction to Katalon Studio Test Automation Tool‘ before reading this article.

Let’s get started.

High Level Overview on Katalon Studio Tool Features

In this article, I would like to give a high level overview on all the below features of Katalon Studio Test Automation Tool:

  1. Set Up Projects
  2. Create Tests
  3. Execute Tests
  4. View Reports
  5. Maintain Tests

Katalon Studio Features

1) Set up Projects

The below are the different features of Katalon Studio which fall under ‘Set up Projects’ category:

Built-in project templates: Katalon Studio by default comes up with built-in project templates, using which  we can organize our test cases, object repositories and keywords. Usage of these project templates will be explained in the upcoming articles.

Web, Mobile and API Testing: Katalon Studio fully supports Web, Android and iOS applications, and API Testing on all famous operating systems. Will learn more about these in the upcoming articles.

SDLC Integration: Katalon Studio easily integrates with Jenkins, Git, Jira and qTest with native plugins. Will learn more about these in the upcoming articles.

2) Create Tests

The below are the different features of Katalon Studio which fall under ‘Create Tests category:

Generates Tests Automatically: Records actions on Web and Mobile applications to auto generate the automation scripts with hundreds of built-in keywords. Will learn more about these in the upcoming articles.

Dual-editor Interface: Building advanced scripts made easy with its own IDE (Integrated Development Environment) and allows us to customize steps with its tabular interface. Will learn more about these in the upcoming articles.

Code-assist utilities: Useful built-in object spy, code completion, in-context reference, and refactoring capabilities which makes the automation scripts creation in Katalon Studio more enjoyable. Will learn more about these in the upcoming articles.

3) Execute Tests

The below are the different features of Katalon Studio which fall under ‘Execute Tests category:

Powerful Test Execution Mechanism: Run and Debug Test Cases or Test Suites using multiple configurations (Safari, Chrome, Firefox) and datasets. Will learn more about these in the upcoming articles.

 

Flexible Execution Engine: Run/Execute Tests on multiple browsers and devices, either locally or on cloud service. Will learn more about these in the upcoming articles.

CI/CD Readiness: CLI and command line generator enable CI/CD and DevOps practices. Will learn more about these in the upcoming articles. The following image depicts the CI/CD Readiness:

Dynamic failure handling and automatic re-execution: Runtime rules to handle complex execution flows automatically by automatically re-executing the failed test automation scripts. Will learn more about these in the upcoming articles.

4) View Reports

The below are the different features of Katalon Studio which fall under ‘View Reports’ category:

Multiple Report formats: Advanced logging, debug data, screenshots and videos in the reports.Will learn more about these in the upcoming articles.

Customizable Execution Workflow: Customizable  post-execution workflow to notify, submit bugs and process execution results. Will learn more about these in the upcoming articles.

Intelligent Reports with Katalon Analytics: Ready-made dashboards, flaky metrics and execution coverage to improve automation strategies. Will learn more about these in the upcoming articles.

5) Maintain Tests

The below are the different features of Katalon Studio which fall under ‘Maintain Tests’ category:

Test Object Maintenance: Automatically update all associated test cases and test suites when test objects are changed. Will learn more about these in the upcoming articles.

Extendable Automation capability: Import external libraries to improve the automation functions beyond Selenium and Appium limits. Will learn more about these in the upcoming articles.

Test Organization: Easy management and maintenance of tests, data and keywords. Will learn more about these in the upcoming articles.
