There are different types of Malware which infect the target system with different intentions like gaining access, stealing data, robbing money, displaying advertisements and so on. The following post will give you more details on the different types of Malware, how they infect target systems and their illegal intentions:
In order to protect our systems with these different types of Malware, we have to take various measures to prevent the Malware from infecting the systems. The following post will give you more details on the various measures/checklist for preventing the presence of Malware in our systems:
Installing anti-malware software is one of the preventive measures for avoiding or removing the malware from infecting our systems. The following are the different types of anti-malware software which can be used for preventing or removing the different types of malicious programs (i.e. malware) from our systems like the computer virus, spyware, rootkits, Trojans and other types:
  • Microsoft Security Essentials:
    • Can be downloaded and installed for free on the genuine Windows operating systems.
    • When kept up-to-date will protect our systems from malicious programs.
    • Compared to other anti-malware software, Microsoft Security Essentials runs quietly and effectively in the background without any interruptions to our day to day activities.
    • Un-install other anti-virus software before installing Microsoft Security Essentials. As having more than one anti-virus software in the same system will conflict with each other.
  • Microsoft Windows Defender:
    • As the support for Microsoft Security Essentials is not available for Windows 8 and Windows RT, we have to go with the Windows Defender which comes inbuilt in these operating systems.
  • AVG (Anti-Virus Guard):
    • Developed by AVG Technologies (A subsidiary of Avast Software)
    • Can be installed on Windows, macOS, and Android.
    • Can be downloaded, installed and updated for free.
    • Premium Plan needs to be purchased for any technical support from their Technical team.
    • The following are the different flavors of AVG Anti-virus:
      • Free Versions: AVG AntiVirus Free (Windows, macOS, and Android)
      • Premium Versions: AVG Internet Security and many more.
  • Spybot – Search & Destroy
    • Is a free Internet security program provided by Safer-Network Ltd.
    • Can be used to remove different types of malware like spyware and adware to ensure that the files and user data are kept private and secure.
    • Spybot also has some other premium versions for Home and Business users.
  • Avast Free Anti Virus – Home Edition
    • Is a free antivirus program available for Windows, macOS, and Android
    • Avast Anti Virus also has the premium versions for Home and Business users.
  • Panda Internet Security – Basic Protection
    • Is a free antivirus program available for Windows and Android
    • Panda anti-virus also has the premium versions for different needs.
  • MacScan
    • Is an anti-malware provided by SecureMac
    • Capable of removing various malicious programs (i.e. malware) like Spyware, Trojan Horses, Keystroke loggers and tracking cookies.
    • Also scans for any remote administration programs, by only allowing them to be installed by the users having proper authorization.
    • Support Mac OS and MAC OS X
    • MacScan is only available in premium versions.
  • And Others
